Making the Jump: Junior to Senior/Master Hunter Seminar

Learn what judges expect in AKC Senior and Master Hunting Tests for pointing breeds and methods to train your dog to reach these levels.

This is an educational seminar designed to help people transition from a Junior Hunter level dog to a finished Senior/Master Hunter level dog. We’ll discuss what judges are looking for and how each test category is scored. You’ll learn the essential behaviors to train and some different ways to go about it. You’ll watch a brace of Master Hunter dogs, score it yourself, and discuss your decisions with the group. This seminar will provide the tools and confidence you need to jumpstart your training so that you and your dog can find success when you are ready for testing season.

Presenters

Richard “Ozzie” Osborne

Ozzie has 12 years of experience as an AKC hunt test judge. He also trains pointing dogs and has put Master Hunter titles on many dogs from a variety of breeds. Ozzie believes in training the dog in front of you and adapts his methods to what works for the individual dog. Ozzie is currently training his seven-year-old GSP, Thor, for the NAVHDA Invitational.

Terry Ann Fernando

Terry Ann is the host of the Accidental Bird Dog Podcast, which covers hunting dog events for pointing breeds. She also offers virtual coaching to help dog owners succeed in hunt tests and field trials. Terry Ann’s 10-year-old vizsla, Zara, started out as a pet, but is now a Master Hunter, a NAVHDA Versatile Champion, and has multiple AKC field trial placements and wins. When Terry Ann was starting out, she found it really difficult to find good resources, so she is passionate about making the training process easier for others.
