Before my husband and I got Zara, I didn’t even want a dog. Now, doing activities with them has become my favorite thing. It’s probably obvious from this website that I’ve gone all in on dog sports, especially bird hunting events! I love sharing my passion and the things I’ve learned with others. I have always been an animal lover. Until we got a dog when I was ten, my sister and I had a range of common and uncommon pets including goldfish, hermit crabs, toads, a crayfish, and a whole slew of gerbils. In fact, I wanted to be a vet until I was in high school.

About Zara

VC Trailside’s Tzar of Fairlington MH JHR THDN DJ CGCA TKN

As might be expected, Zara’s favorite thing to do is hunt birds. She also loves people, toys, eating, and being outside. Zara was a certified therapy dog through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs for four years. She became an AKC Master Hunter title in 2021 and a NAVHDA Versatile Champion in 2023. She also had a four-year AKC field trial career and earned 20 placements. She is now retired from bird dog events but we’ll continue hunting wild birds for as long as she is able.

She has been a pleasure to train as she is very food-motivated and eager to please. Her name means “princess” in Arabic and it has turned out to be very fitting.

About Colombo

Adriatic’s King Colombo of North Ridge CA BCAT CGC TKN

Colombo is a nine-year-old Rhodesian ridgeback. He loves to sunbathe, play with other dogs, and go on walks. Colombo has participated in conformation and especially loves lure coursing. He completed the 12-mile Endurance Trial run at the Rhodesian Ridgeback National Specialty in October 2019. He is also basically retired from dog sports but we may dabble in scentwork at some point.

His name comes from Colombo, Sri Lanka, which is the city where my husband, Chris, was born. He is much calmer and lazier than Zara.

About Lanka

Trailside’s Queen of Ceylon CGC TKN NAIII

Lanka is our latest addition! She’s a two-year-old vizsla from the same breeder as Zara and she shares a lot of the same genetics as Zara. She ran the NAVHDA Natural Ability at just shy of 5 months and received a Prize 3. My focus for her is AKC field trials and we worked steadiness in the field and retrieving over the past year. I also showed her in conformation this summer and she is more than halfway to her show championship and has both majors. She is very independent, confident, and loves people. She is very good at entertaining herself and is less needy than Zara is.

Lanka is named after Sri Lanka where Chris grew up.
