The past couple of months have been a bit of a whirlwind because we bought a house in Raleigh! Zara is very excited to finally have a yard again and be out of the apartment. She wants to be outside all the time!

Our house has a half-acre yard, with most of land in the back yard. It has a grassy section and then a more “natural” mulched/English-ivy covered section. It backs up to a small creek, which divides the neighbors’ property from ours. Unfortunately, the yard did not come fenced, so we are in the process of putting up a fence. Thankfully, Zara is good off-leash and listens well, so she can be outside in the yard as long as we are keeping an eye on her. Over the past two months, she has learned where the boundaries of the yard are and stays inside them for the most part.

When we lived in the apartment, I would take Zara to the dog park almost every morning during the week and often on the weekend as well. Now, Zara practically exercises herself in the morning. We go out in the yard and she runs around hunting birds, squirrels, and rabbits, with her nose to the ground. Occasionally she’ll want to chase a ball or frisbee but usually she runs on her own. It’s been great! The only drawback to not having a fence yet is that I can’t let her out unless I’m keeping an eye on her. She obviously doesn’t understand why she can’t be outside all day long, so that’s been an adjustment. (Since we work at home, we’re there most days.)

It’s so much nicer living in our own house than an apartment. :)
