I would love the opportunity to draw your beloved pet or do a portrait for a friend or family member. All of my portraits are drawn from photographs.
Size
I am currently offering portraits in three sizes.
Small – 8×10″: This a nice size if you don’t have a lot of wall space. The reference photograph for an 8×10″ should be a detailed close-up of your pet’s head.
Standard – 11×14″: This a great size that can be placed into an 11×14″ frame or matted with a 2″ mat into a 16×20″ frame.
Large – 16×20″: This larger size will really make a statement and can be a better option if you are looking for a full body portrait or two pets together. This size can be placed into a 16×20″ frame or matted with a 2″ mat into a 20×24″ frame.
Portraits do not include mats or frames, but I am happy to offer recommendations for you. If you are interested in a specific size other than these, feel free to reach out to me and we can discuss what you are looking for.
Shipping
Shipping is additional and depends on your location. I prefer to ship vis UPS or FedEx. In the U.S., it is typically about $15–$20. Please let me know where your portrait needs to be delivered. If you are local to the Raleigh, North Carolina or Washington, DC areas, we can arrange to meet in person if you prefer.
Timeline
Each portrait takes approximately one month to complete. I will let you know the anticipated turnaround time when you contact me. I have a waitlist and portraits will be completed in the order they are placed. It’s never too early to think about the holidays!
Materials
I use Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils and a little white paint for highlights. My portraits are drawn on Strathmore archival paper.
Reference Photograph(s)
A high-resolution, in-focus photograph is the key to a detailed portrait. While I can work with photos that are not as high quality, the result will be “softer” and not as detailed.
Try to take a photo of your pet in natural light. The best light can often be found outside on a cloudy day or in the early morning or evening hours. The file size should be several megabytes in size. A photo taken by a smart phone may not be good enough. If you are not sure if your photo will work, feel free to email me, and I’d be happy to advise you.
If You Don’t Have An Ideal Photo
Sometimes it is not possible to get the perfect, high-quality photo, either because your pet has passed away, or you are planning a surprise for someone. I am able to work with photos that need some correction or need minor items removed. If you have any questions about your photo, please reach out to me and we can discuss what I can do.
